I Dumped the Male Lead Before the Apocalypse

Yan Chen watched Tang Tang stabbing with ease and felt a bit tempted himself. He turned and scanned the dorm room, his eyes settling on a broom hiding in the corner.

He picked it up and tested its weight, too light. No good.

He shook his head and went to look for the mop in the bathroom instead.

By the time the two of them had stabbed zombies until they were both exhausted, the zombies outside the window showed no sign of thinning out at all.

“Just how many zombies are there?!” Yan Chen despaired.

Tang Tang was equally despairing. Sure, stabbing with the pole seemed easy enough, but maintaining the same motion over and over made her arms ache!

Not to mention the pole was heavy as hell, and she had to hold it with both hands just to thrust it outโ€”otherwise, it wouldn’t have enough force to knock the zombies down.

Watching the endless stream of zombies still surging toward the window, Tang Tang really wanted to stick her head out and see whether those zombies were actually completely unharmed after being pushed down!!

Why wasn’t the zombie count decreasing??

Today was only the third day of the six-day deadline.

Yet the window in their dorm was already broken. And the hole was quite large, with a growing trend as the zombies kept headbutting it with their iron-hard skulls.

Tang Tang knew this couldn’t go on. If this continued, once the nearly two-meter-wide pane of glass shattered completely, even eight hands wouldn’t be enough to stop the sheer number of zombies.

Just as she was racking her brain for a way out of this predicament, the dorm doorโ€”which had remained relatively quiet until thenโ€”suddenly came under assault.

“BANGโ€”” A deafening crash rang out.

Something unknownย suddenly slammed against their dormitory door with a heavy, muffled thud, causing the sturdy door to shudder and rattle violently.

Tang Tang and Yan Chen exchanged a look.

“You’ve got to be kidding?”

Despair deepened in both their eyes.

The window was already a huge problem, and now the door was in trouble too?

Could it be that the zombies realized the window wasn’t working out and decided to switch to the main entrance?

That bold, huh?

Zombies couldn’t possibly have that high an intelligence!

“BANGโ€”heheheโ€”BANGโ€””

“Pfftโ€”whooshโ€”hissโ€”sizzleโ€””

The noise outside didn’t subside ,they grew louder, as if concentrated right outside their dorm door.

“That sound isn’t right.”

Tang Tang listened carefully to the noises coming from outside. By now, they were quite familiar with the peculiar, guttural ‘hehe’ sounds zombies made, but this time, those sounds were mixed with other, indistinguishable noises.

Yan Chen nodded in agreement.

“You handle the zombies at the window for now. I’ll go check the door.”

“Okay, be careful.”

Tang Tang walked toward the dorm door. The closer she got, the more distinct the sounds outside became. She tightened her grip on the iron rod and carefully lifted the peephole cover just a tiny crack.

!!

People!

Tang Tang opened her mouth in surprise, then quickly closed it to keep from accidentally making any sound.

Because the peephole was only open a tiny slit, she couldn’t see very clearly. But the difference between zombies and humans was stark, so she could still quickly tell them apart.

Onlyโ€”

These people didn’t seem to be ordinary?

Afraid she might be seeing things, Tang Tang held her breath and focused, looking more carefully.

The people outside were all boys, roughly their age. She didn’t recognize them, but they were presumably classmates from other dorms on the tenth floor. Probably their supplies had run out, so they’d charged out in one go to find food. Running into zombies outside, fighting was the only option.

None of that was the problem. The biggest problem was, could those people already use abilities?

Tang Tang observed that one boy had a small fireball floating directly in his hand. Any zombie that touched him would be burned by the fireball. The burned areas would sizzle and smoke, giving off a foul odor.

That must have been one of the other sounds they’d heard from inside the dorm.

But this fire ability didn’t seem very powerful. Although it burned the zombies, they were only injured locally and could still keep attacking overall.

Presumably, to stop a zombie’s attack, you’d have to hit a vital spot.

Besides the fire ability, there were also abilities like water, ice, and wind. Tang Tang roughly counted, there were over a dozen people blocking the hallway outside, with fire abilities being the most common at three people, while the other abilities had only one or two each.

“Can you aim your water ball or not?! Don’t put out my fire!!”

“Can you throw your ice chunks more accurately?! You hit me, dammit!”

“If you can’t control the wind, go back to your own dorm, alright?! Stop messing things up here!”

Tang Tang listened to them blaming each other and saw that they had zero coordination, clearly not a pre-planned operation.

She frowned and glanced back at the three people still tied to the desk, showing no signs of ability awakening.

Was it because people had different attributes that the time needed for ability awakening also differed?

As the male lead, Jiang Zhu’s ability was certainly extremely powerful. If he had spent this long without successfully awakening, could it be that the longer the ability awakening takes, the more powerful the resulting ability would be?

Then wouldn’t Qin Zhang and Qi Mu also be…?

Thinking this, she shook her head again.

No, she couldn’t jump to conclusions just yet.

The commotion outside the door gradually died down, until only a few crippled zombies remained, stubbornly crawling back up from the ground.

Tang Tang worried they might catch her scent, so she quickly covered the peephole and retreated from the dormitory door.

Yan Chen by the window was still waiting for her observations.

She relayed everything that had happened outside to him.

Yan Chen was astonished: “Are you serious? They can attack with fire, water, and ice?!”

Tang Tang nodded.

“Damn! Could that be the legendary ability?! Those people actually awakened abilities?”

Yan Chen’s mouth hung open in shock, but after the initial shock, he quickly became dejected.

“Then if I haven’t shown any change at all by now, doesn’t that mean I have no chance?”

Tang Tang glanced at him, then raised her iron rod and started stabbing at the zombies outside the window again.

“Hmm… not necessarily, maybe your awakening just takes a bit… longer?”

Then she thought of herself.

She too had shown no signs of awakening at all!!

She wanted to cry.

Please don’t tell her she really had no ability at all…

Their dormitory was especially close to the stairwell, so if anyone else rushed out of their room, they would definitely pass by here again.

The earlier fight had already put a lot of strain on their dormitory door, and water from the water-ability user had even seeped through the cracks. If a few more powerful ability users came, this door might not hold.

And once the door was gone, the window hole on this side was already broken even wider, they wouldn’t be able to defend both sides…

Tang Tang’s brows furrowed tightly.

Jiang Zhu was the male lead, so nothing would happen to him.

These three were the male lead’s companions, so they’d probably make it out safely too.

Soโ€”just don’t let her be the one sacrificed to the zombies first!
