This was the video played by the system for Feng Lianzhu upon his arrival in the interstellar world, detailing the missions.
In the spiritual world, it felt like a long time had passed for Feng Lianzhu, but in reality, only a few minutes had gone by.
A colleague who saw him awaken whispered, “Try to stay awake even if you’re tired. I just heard something outside, it seems like they might have found something.”
This researcher simply thought Feng Lianzhu was overly tired from being woken up in the middle of the night and being kept here waiting for interrogation results, as many researchers were dozing off, and a few leaning against the wall had completely fallen asleep.
Most people here were very nervous, but there were also a few who were more relaxed, able to sleep wherever they sat.
Feng Lianzhu leaned against the wall and closed his eyes, seemingly resting, but in reality, he was concentrating on contacting the mud figure outside.
The offices near the laboratory had been thoroughly searched, checking pots and tree trunks for devices like monitors, but mud figures, belonging to the realm of mystical forces from the world of immortals and martial arts, naturally couldnโt be detected.
Feng Lianzhu’s power is equivalent to the system materializing the game’s design in the real world in the form of energy. If the system could do such a thing, what exactly is it?
There was no issue found within the Linke Bamboos, and the officers, having no inclination to clean up the sterile mud on the floor, didnโt notice a piece of mud that looked particularly like a human head.
“Have the surveillance been checked?” an officer asked.
Such an important place naturally had surveillance, yet someone used a delayed blocking device to stop the surveillance.
Tampering with surveillance to steal something is common, but it’s strange that they only stopped the surveillance inside the laboratory for 5 minutes, and there was no issue with the external surveillance, such as in the hallways.
This equipment maintenance person, after inspecting the equipment, left. He was one of the soldiers stationed at the Science Academy, a technical soldier. When the commanding officer of the stationed troops went to arrest him, they discovered he had fled the previous night.
Three other personnel from the Science Academy had also escaped, including a researcher from the gene enhancement project. His room was already empty, and after the officer ordered a thorough search, they only found a golden mask that had been scorched by fire.
The day before the young dragon specimen was stolen, the police in Eimiral had found a similar mask in a deserted area about 1500 kilometers from the interstellar port. The security department restored the video of the assassination at the interstellar port multiple times and finally saw the assassin with two mechanical wings tied to his back, hair that seemed to be modified with micro energy weapons embedded, capable of releasing powerful cannonballs. Most importantly, the assassin was wearing a golden mask.
The Alliance police uploaded the still blurry scene pictures and the 3D image of the scorched mask to the military’s internal network, which the Science Academy’s stationed troops also saw, but at the time they didnโt take it seriously. It wasnโt their responsibility; they were tasked with more important work.
Little did they know, the next early morning, they would see the same mask again.
Again related to the Imperial Army, again a person wearing a golden mask, again an individual whose physical strength far exceeded that of ordinary people.
The Science Academy had experienced a young dragon specimen theft before, but it was only about 10 cubic centimeters in size. The specimen was stolen because it wasnโt stored in the heavily guarded storeroom of the Science Academy. To prevent the total loss of young dragon specimens, the alliance had decided to store them separately.
This theft incident prompted the alliance’s upper echelons to decide to keep all young dragon specimens together under tight security to avoid another case of theft due to lax security.
This indeed saved Feng Lianzhu a lot of time, allowing him to destroy all the specimens at once.
Investigators suspect that the Imperial Army made breakthrough progress using the young dragon specimen, creating humans with abilities beyond ordinary people. The assassin at the interstellar port might just be one of these artificially enhanced superhumans.
This has also been a research focus for the Alliance, hoping humanity could harness the power of Kirates to become stronger and thus achieve evolutionary leaps for the species.
Those who undergo reverse evolution are undoubtedly considered evolutionary dead ends.
With several suspects already on the run, the main focus of the investigators is now to track these individuals down. They firmly believe the young dragon specimen was stolen, not destroyed, because the Alliance had conducted tests showing the extraordinary resilience of Kirates’ โกโก; even if the entire laboratory were blown up, these specimens couldnโt be completely eradicated but would leave some remnants behind.
But now, not only the containers were destroyed, but not even a single cell of the young dragon specimens was left behind. It’s impossible they were destroyed; they must have been stolen!
Fortunately, since the assassination incident at the interstellar port, the planet Eimeral has been under martial law, with no spacecraft allowed to enter or exit freely. Those who stole the specimen, even if they have left the Science Academy, must still be on planet Eimeral.
Young dragon specimens contain special energy, and the Alliance has energy detection instruments. As long as they appear within 5 meters of the device, the young dragon specimens can be located.
“Request a carpet search within Eimeral from the council, don’t miss a single cubic meter including the atmosphere, even inside swamps, or at the bottom of the deep sea!” the officer commanded, “Also, issue a warrant for the four individuals who escaped tonight, investigate every aspect of their lives since birth, and do not overlook anyone in their network of relations.”
“What about the researchers?” the deputy asked, “Some are highly respected elderly professors.”
“Everyone who had direct contact with those four must be investigated. Those without direct contactโฆ check their hair to see if it has been specially modified. Those with hair transplants should also be thoroughly investigated,” the commanding officer ordered.
Feng Lianzhu, listening in through the mud figure, nearly laughed out loud at their entire investigation process. Things were indeed going as he planned, but the hair check was something Feng Lianzhu hadn’t anticipated.
Many people in the Science Academy suffer from hair loss issues; those who could get hair transplants were considered lucky, some didnโt even have enough hair for transplantation. Many opted for artificial hair follicles, installing numerous fake follicles on their scalp with synthetic hair in them, and these individuals were not few.
Among so many suspicious individuals, the real assassin, Feng Lianzhu’s hair, was genuinely natural, prompting the inspecting soldier to admire, “Your hair is really nice.”
“Maybe because I’m young. I’ll probably go bald in a couple of years,” Feng Lianzhu joked.
Those with hair issues were detained for further inspection by experts in human modification and weaponry. Feng Lianzhu’s mentor, Lin Ke, was among them. Who could have thought that this white-haired professorโs hair was also fake!
Those without issues could go back to their rooms to rest but were not allowed to leave the Science Academy until the investigation was concluded.
One thing the investigators couldn’t figure out was how the thief entered and exited the storeroom. The surveillance in the corridor was working normally but captured nothing.
A detective expert raised a doubt: why would the thief destroy the containers after taking the young dragon specimens? He could have exited the way he came in without triggering an alarm. Was there a reason he had to destroy the containers and the safe? Could it be that there was another entrance to the laboratory, and the thief destroyed everything to cover up this secret exit?
This speculation was accepted by most, prompting the Alliance to start looking for any other passages in the laboratory.
Eavesdropping, Feng Lianzhu was nearly dying of laughter. Technically, his identity wouldnโt withstand scrutiny. Initially inexperienced, he had created an uncle account, a former underground arena fighter who had encountered the principal of Alliance Third Primary School, Teacher Jenny, and others. Later, upon arriving at Eimeral, General Laurie helped him perfect his personal information, but such details wouldnโt hold up under thorough investigation.
If the military starts to suspect him and investigates his academic background, they would quickly find the “uncle” who once caused a commotion in the underground arena and even showed his face, possibly having connections with the Imperial Army.
However, the current focus of the investigation is on tracking the four fugitives, searching the entire planet of Eimeral for the non-existent young dragon specimens, and meticulously examining the life histories of individuals in the Science Academy with artificial hair. Feng Lianzhu, who has no apparent suspicion and has just entered the Science Academy without any contact with confidential work, would naturally be one of the last to be thoroughly investigated.
By then, under his guidance, Fat Dragon might even be able to get into college.
Feng Lianzhu was moved to a room with surveillance, where he couldn’t video call Fat Dragon, which greatly displeased him.
All projects within the Science Academy were halted, and the researchers waiting for investigation had nothing to do, leaving Feng Lianzhu to spend his days surfing the internet in his room.
He alternated between entertainment news and the hottest current events, showing no discernible pattern in his online activities. Nor was there any evidence of him communicating with the outside world.
Feng Lianzhu was waiting, waiting for a video he had given to Lizard to be posted online.
With the theft of the young dragon specimens, the internal turmoil of the Alliance left them with no capacity to control the discourse around Atavists. Four days after the theft, the Alliance Supreme Court announced the repeal of the current “Atavists Protection Act,” and the Parliament was set to discuss the contents of a new protection act.
This move by the Alliance to delay was an attempt to stabilize public sentiment. Atavists, being a by-product of human research into Kirates genetics and deemed evolutionary dead ends, signify the Alliance leadership’s insecurity; they cannot live normally within the Alliance. Since exile is not agreed upon, the next best option is to establish a few habitable planets with the best conditions for them, create management institutions for Atavists, and confine them for life on these planets, not unlike prisoners on a prison planet.
On the day the act was repealed, a new policy was posted online for public opinion polling. The detailed description of the welfare and treatment of Atavists gave the impression that their future lives would be blissful. The general public, unable to see the hidden traps, knew only their sympathy for the Atavists, yet, in reality, they indeed preferred not to live on the same planet with them. This arrangement seemed quite suitable.
Two days later, with over 50% of the effective votes in favor, the new act was set to be enacted.
The Alliance organized welfare institutions on various planets to watch the official legislative process of the new act and even invited Lizard and others as representatives of the Atavists.
When asked if they agreed with the new act, Lizard looked up and said, “May I play a video? About Atavists.”
Such a galaxy-wide live program couldn’t just play an unknown video at random. As the staff was about to refuse, Lizard activated his personal device, projecting the 3D video.
This was the video played by the system for Feng Lianzhu upon his arrival in the interstellar world, detailing the missions.
It showed the life of Atavists on Primitive Star 419 in the Cyan Galaxy before they met Feng Lianzhu.
