They arrived in Lindu at four in the morning.

Before entering the city at three-thirty in the morning, Mei Shengyao had already prepared his new driver’s license and disguise tools. The group was bustling in the car, changing clothes, wearing wigs, and applying eyeshadow for each other.

Six people together were too conspicuous; once they entered the city, it was best to act separately. They had agreed on four men and two women when planning earlier.

Xie Lianyun had experience in this area. Mei Shengyao, temporarily the shortest in the team, quickly changed into women’s clothes, one with shoulder-length hair and the other with braids.

Bo Jue’s expression was complex while braiding Mei Shengyao’s hair: “Why do you seem so happy…”

“It’s fun!” Mei Shengyao was already applying lipstick in the rearview mirror, skillfully pursing his lips: “How can I look so good!”

“Yes, yes, you’re the prettiest.” Huo Ren was still adjusting his wig, earnestly advising: “When you speak outside, make your voice sweet. Xie Lianyun, you wear a mask and don’t talk. Everyone will recognize you the moment you open your mouth.”

After the female members got their floral skirts and mint green jackets sorted, the four men helped each other with wigs and eyebrows, further modifying their makeup.

It was impossible to disguise as middle-aged people in their twenties, but it was easy to adjust their demeanor and clothing to look less noticeable.

Being an idol means having that one-in-a-million look, dazzling enough to be remembered by anyone in a crowd.

Now, they were all wanted by the entire city for a bag of plastic gold nuggets and had to find a way to hide their shine.

Huo Ren picked a seventy-yuan pinkish-blue POLO shirt and work pants for Long Jia, trying to bring back that cheap feel.

After dressing, Long Jia turned around in the driver’s seat.

“No go.” Mei Shengyao shook his head: “Looks like a model, still too handsome.”

Long Jia was very pleased, ruffling his fake hair: “Nice compliment.”

Huo Ren was somewhat frustrated, then pulled out a Hawaiian shirt for him to try.

“No… this looks even better than the previous one.”

A flashy jacket covered in sequins.

“This seems pretty trendy?”

Bo Jue frowned as he watched.

“A tank top,” he suddenly said: “That kind of old man’s shirt, let Long Jia wear a tank top.”

Tight and highlighting the shoulders, back, and chest muscles, it had a refreshing sexiness even when sweaty.

Huo Ren quietly said: “Then let’s stick with the POLO shirt. Long Jia, come here, I’ll try to make you look less attractive.”

Long Jia earnestly reflected: “It’s my fault for being too dazzling.”

Thus, the SUV carrying six idols transformed, becoming a vehicle filled with society’s idlers and the sinful.

Inside, there was a blonde ponytailed internet celebrity face girl, a black-haired, cold beauty.

A POLO-shirt-wearing, Crayon Shin-chan eyebrow driver, with a stoic bald man in the passenger seat, the back seat housed a purple-haired rebel youth and a boy in a high school uniform.

The original role for Chi Ji was a delinquent, but no matter the makeup, Chi Ji still looked like a well-behaved little angel, so they gave up.

When the SUV passed through security, Long Jia, with his thickly joined eyebrows, handed over the toll without changing his expression, while the other five were nearly heart-stopped.

The worker almost laughed out loud at the sight of those distinctly ethnic eyebrows but maintained a polite expression and squeezed out a wish for a smooth journey.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief simultaneously and steered the vehicle towards the southeast.

This time, the navigation voice was set to Chi Ji’s version, thanks to someone in the passenger seat.

“There’s a camera ahead~ Remember to drive safely, Chi Ji loves you!”

“You’re about to speed, the speed limit here is fifty~”

Not long after, the yellow light suddenly lit up.

“The light’s on?!”

“Which way should we go?”

Huo Ren signaled Long Jia to keep driving forward while paying attention to the changes in the yellow light.

About fifteen minutes later, the yellow light slowly turned red, indicating that the trackers were only three to five kilometers away from them.

“They’re on Chen Jia Road, Long Jia, take the next left, pass two traffic lights, then turn left again and go straight.”

Long Jia whistled and changed lanes, steering the wheel.

Huo Ren was still focused on the changing frequency of the light flashes, having already mapped out the nearby street routes in his mind, guiding them again at the second left turn.

“Long Jia, there’ll be an alley on the left, let’s circle around to the end, then turn back.”

“Roger that.”

Before completing the entire loop, the red light flickered twice, turned yellow, and completely went out as they reached the storage point.

Mei Shengyao curiously asked, “How did you figure it out?”

“Tangent equations.”

“Huh?”

The SUV drove into a warehouse they had rented in advance, and everyone got out of the car, feeling relieved.

Chi Ji suddenly pulled out a rabbit from his embrace: “What do we do with this emergency ration?”

“We got some carrots from Uncle Gong’s place,” Mei Shengyao said with a smile: “Tie it up and let it watch the warehouse for now.”

They needed to replenish a lot of things.

Clothing, food, water, cash, and even replacing worn-out running shoes.

Although they had set up several storage points in Lindu, they couldn’t stay in any of these places for long. Once the trackers found suspicious surveillance footage, hiding there would lead to being caught all at once.

Being fugitives wasn’t easy, and the purchases of these items were made through several intermediaries, introduced by friends of acquaintances, who then found relatives to rent on their behalf, in an effort to avoid associative capture.

They managed to get two box tricycles commonly used by middle-aged and elderly people, preparing to set off again after collecting everything.

After a night of running around, everyone felt exhausted, but it’s often at times like these when slips happen.

However, they could only sleep for a few hours in this small warehouse; they couldn’t afford to stay too long.

Long Jia and Bo Jue, who had driven through the night in the torrential rain, quickly ate some porridge and then fell asleep on air mattresses, already deep in sleep.

Chi Ji and Mei Shengyao were tidying up the miscellaneous items inside and outside the car, with a little wild rabbit watching the door.

Huo Ren was quickly counting money in a corner, while Xie Lianyun came over, bending down with the distance lamp in his hand.

“Ren,” he called out, his tone uncertain: “Do you want to take a gamble?”

Huo Ren continued his task, having counted thirteen thousand in cash and still counting.

“On what?”

“I actually know a friend who used to work in Silicon Valley,” Xie Lianyun paused for a few seconds before continuing: “I want to ask him to dismantle the lamp.”

Dismantle the lamp?

Huo Ren stopped his actions, understanding his intention: “You want to make another lamp?”

“With six of us moving and escaping together, it’s inconvenient. If we could act separately, we could also provide cover for each other.” Xie Lianyun examined the construction of the distance lamp, continuing to explain: “Inside this lamp, there’s likely a signal receiver that can pick up the location signals from the other police cars, and then use a simple app to determine and control the light.โ€

“If we can crack this signal…”

Huo Ren thought calmly for a few seconds.

“We can dismantle it, but not with your friend.” He turned his head towards him: “We don’t have many friends in Lindu, and most of them are probably already under surveillance.”

Not using the hilltop villa and helicopter was to avoid being ambushed.

Xie Lianyun felt overwhelmed: “Although I’ve studied programming… my skills might not be enough.”

“Go to the University of Electronic Science and Technology for help.” Huo Ren quickly said: “It’s located at 3 Yuding Road, Xifang District. Take the lamp there to the Department of Information Security, reveal your identity in the professor’s office after removing your disguise, and retreat immediately if something seems off.”

“Do you know someone there?”

“I don’t.” Huo Ren took a newspaper from the shelf, spread out the front page of the entertainment news, and handed it to him: “So you need to take this with you.”

Xie Lianyun saw a photo of the six of them and detailed reports and predictions about “The Crown’s Most Wanted.”

This was their current ID โ€” purely relying on facial recognition.

“What if the professors aren’t fans?”

“That’s the gamble, but that’s not what we’re betting on.” Huo Ren nodded: “The technology aspect of this lamp is definitely not difficult, since it’s just a show prop.”

“But if this is handled cleverly, it could be a big boost for the university’s reputation, whether it’s for attracting students or applying for research funding, it’s all beneficial.”

Xie Lianyun quickly agreed, confirming the division of tasks: “Just Long Jia and I will go, it’s a crowded place, too many of us and we’ll easily be recognized โ€” what about you guys?”

Huo Ren pressed his temples, after a while said: “I need to buy a restaurant, tell the owner to hand over the place, and we’ll deal with the paperwork after a few days when we’re not so busy.”

Xie Lianyun: …?

“We’ll probably choose within these two blocks nearby, looking for a small restaurant without CCTV. Before getting it, we might camp in the park or move to another storage point to hide temporarily.”

“Xie Lianyun, contact Goldfish Grass.”
